Hi, my name is Dylan Van Loggerenberg, I am 39 years old and currently living in Cape Town, South Africa with my wife and two kids.

I studied Graphic Design at the Technikon of the Witwatersrand, Johanneburg. Shortly after graduation I worked for 2 years at Rapid Phase, the creators of world famous Madam & Eve cartoon strips. My position was junior artist and I worked as an illustrator on several comic strips and booklets for many projects including AIDS awareness, adult literacy and corporate communication.

After leaving Rapid Phase, I joined the newly formed VWV Interactive around 1996 which was then one of South Africa's first specialist digital design agencies. I started as a junior designer and progressed to senior designer during the 4 years I was there. I worked on projects for many of South Africa's leading brands including South African Airways and Nandos. The Nandos website received many top advertising awards.

In 2000, I joined FCB Electric Ocean, the interactive division of FCB SA, the third largest advertising agency in South Africa. Electric Ocean was regarded as a leading web agency with several awards under its belt. I joined as senior designer and in my year there I worked on a range of projects including Toyota, Energade and Compaq.

In 2001 I was approached by KERB to come and work in the UK. I jumped at the opportunity as KERB's fun, off- the-wall approach to online marketing was a million miles away from anything around at the time.

I started as senior designer and became art director after 3 years. I was one of the team that was pivotal in turning the company into one of UK's most successful and well known agencies with a string of awards and industry accolades, with several of UK's leading brands as clients.

My role was split between art director and lead designer. I was involved with projects from initial brainstorming of concepts to final design and presentation. I was responsible for overseeing all the elements including interface design, logos, character design, animation, illustration and background design. I am proficient in Flash, Photoshop and Illustrator.

The range of projects I have worked on include educational games and animation for BBC, animation for SKY digital, interactive application for NOKIA, a range of games for DISNEY Europe and Japan, interface and game design for LEGO, a games portal for SAMSUNG, websites and games for SONY and many more.

As in most cases, the majority of the projects had very short deadlines. With this in mind I would definitely count my strengths as the ability to turn jobs around very quickly while retaining a high standard of quality and user enjoyment, as well as the ability to take the initiative when there often is little or no lead from the client.

In my position as art director I was responsible for transferring these qualities on to my team, ensuring that they produced a high standard of work regardless of time restraint. Running the design department required keeping the designers happy through a balance of work and regular personal side- projects to encourage them to develop their skills. One such project I came up with was the KERB blog.

My final projects were for SONY. These included the design of a website and interactive flash movies for the new PS3 site. SONY were extremely happy with our work and subsequently gave us the job of designing the website for their PSP-GO range.

Although I was extremely sad to leave KERB after being such an integral part of the company for so long, I felt it would be beneficial for my personal growth to move on and explore new horizons. With this in mind, I look forward to all the new challenges awaiting.

i have included a selection of games i have created for clients
as well as few personal game projects i have been working on.
unfortunately not all the games are live still. where this is
the case i have tried to link to a back up file.

THUNK / PERSONAL

this is a project i am currently working on, a very old school looking
smash & bash robot game. it's early days yet so there is only a short
demo to show.

SNACK DASH / SCHOOL FOOD TRUST

this was a game created for the school food trust to promote
healthy eating in schools. it was a very rewarding job to work
on as sonic was always a favorite of mine. the challenge was
trying to capture the speed of the character in the animation.
the game received rave reviews and a very high click through for
the client.

UNAZUKIN / BANDAI

this was a mini game i did as part of a wider campaign we
created to promote the unazukin toy for BANDAI. i especially
enjoyed having to make the whole game look & feel as if it
was created in japan, silly but fun :)

BIONICLE / LEGO

this was also another very exiting project to work on, the
development of 6 mini games for a new range of BIONICLE toys.
having always been a huge lego fan it was a real honor to
work on such a big project for them. overall i think the games
reflect the attitude and technical skill of the brand.

PLAYSTATION PINBALL / SONY

a slick puzzle pinball game developed for PLAYSTATION. i kept the
whole look and feel of this very bright and fast paced trying to
capture the feel of a traditional pinball machine.

MICROLIFE / BBC

this is quite old now but i felt it was worth showing as it is a clever
game and i am also quite proud of it as it won BEST GAME at the
2004 FLASH FORWARD FESTIVAL.

ALADDIN PAGE ONE / DISNEY JAPAN

a fun version of the game UNO using characters from ALADDIN.
this was one of the many succesful projects i worked on for
DISNEY JAPAN.

EASY WATCH / EASY GROUP

a fun physics game to promote the EASY GROUP's new watch range.

UNIBALL / UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHAMPTON

this was a complex puzzle game where the users get to build
their own levels and save them so other people can play and
rate them. i was very happy with the finished game as it
played and looked really slick.

a short animation i created experimenting with video in flash.

PISTON JUNKIES / LONGRANGE

this started life as designs for vinyl toys that we had
for TOY2R in hong kong. in the end we used the characters
for a music video we created for the band LONGRANGE. it
was an inhouse job and was very much a labour of love.
i directed it, storyboarded it and created all the characters
and background designs as well as the 3d textures.

FATBOY SLIM / BIG BEACH BOUTIQUE

this is a short animation i produced for the first FATBOY SLIM beach
party held in brighton in 2002. the visuals were played on huge
screens behind the dj box. it was a fantastic experience having
nearly half a million people watching something i had created:)

thia is promo video created for the the NOKIA 330, it was used
in-store to show the features of the phone in a fun and non
technical way.

YODOBASHI

this a short promotional clip i produced for the YODOBASHI electronic
super stores in japan. it was quite amazing to see them played on the
super large screens outside the stores.

Web Design

Here is a selection of some of my more recent web design
projects. i have included links to the actual sites when
possible, a few however, are not live anymore.

PLAYSTATION 3 SITE / SONY

although i kept the design of this site quite simple to fit
in with the PS3's style guide, i was allowed a bit more freedom
with designing the interactive flash elements for each sub
section. it was an incredibly tight deadline with lots of
pressure as SONY are a very important client to keep happy.
they loved the site in the end and we won more work off
them after that.

i designed this game portal for SAMSUNGS new T10 mp3 player.
again i have stuck to a simple clean design letting the product
and games take center stage.

the launch of the PSP-GO range in europe. it was a tricky design to
get right as there was a lot of information and facts that needed
to be shown.
